Obama’s Speech on Afghanistan Pullout – Not Really News

It is obvious that President Obama is heavy on the campaign trail. many of his staunch followers are angry because he did not live up to his promises when he ran for his first term in office. He said that he would stop the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. but we still have mega troops there, and we even did a surge of troops in Afghanistan.

Meanwhile, it appears that NATO, along with the US has started another war, this time in Libya. And it’s not as if Gaddafi is not considered a terrorist in many parts of the world, after all they did bring down the 747 airliner in Lockerbie, and that was a terrorist act sponsored by the government of Libya – but do we really need another war now?

Yes, it’s been tough for President Obama to raise money in California, especially in Hollywood as he has not ended the wars as promised, closed Gitmo, or provided the employment for Americans that he promised would be his number one priority. Is my contention that Obama speech on the Afghan pullout is not really news, it is not a substantial pullout, and rather it was put forth prior to his latest campaign tour in the United States, as his campaign desperately needs money.

Reuters had an interesting take on this news on June 22, 2011 in an article which stated; “Obama Moves Towards Exit from Afghanistan” by Missy Ryan and Steve Holland with an attached video titled “Afghans Mixed on US Withdrawl” the article stated;

“Obama announced on TV a plan to pull out 10,000 troops from Afghanistan by year’s end, followed by about 23,000 more by the end of next summer. News that Obama will pull the entire ‘surge’ force he sent to Afghanistan in 2010 caps weeks of speculation about the future of U.S. involvement there and could increase friction between Obama and military advisors who have warned about the perils of a hasty drawdown.”

Ending the war in Afghanistan is not equal to a long drawn-out drawdown, and President Obama didn’t need to announce anything, he should’ve just done it. Why give more ammunition, inspiration, and hope to the Taliban, Al Qaeda, and those who oppose us? Why alert the whole world that we are drawing down troops, as that just gives more excuse for NATO troops to pull out as well? And why does our president do everything for bonus points in the mainstream media. Running our nation’s military is not about a man running for re-election, it’s about protecting the American people.

I am quite disturbed by this president’s specially timed announcements during his campaign, and I daresay I wouldn’t put anything past this administration because they will probably do anything to get reelected. That’s no way to run leadership of the country, and isn’t that really the very problem that President Obama claimed of his political adversaries to get elected in the first place? sure it is, but it certainly it isn’t; Hope or Change.

President Obama claims that he would raise $1 billion for his reelection campaign, and I fear this is just another ploy to get a large infusion of cash into his campaign from the Hollywood movie crowd in California. And it will take President Obama $1 billion to get reelected if we don’t improve the unemployment numbers here.

Perhaps he should be talking less about our war efforts in order to make his Teleprompter speeches look good, and focus on running our nation. Or maybe not, since much of what he’s done while he’s been running our nation has presented us with the law of unintended consequences, putting us in a worse place.

Now then, I’ve never been one for proposing that a President of the United States go on more vacations, but maybe it’s time that President Obama went on a very long vacation and did nothing, rather than what he’s doing or isn’t doing now. Indeed I hope you will please consider all of this and my hard-hitting comments because we are in an election cycle, and it’s time we start talking about the reality.
